Megan Walstad, who led Eastview to an undefeated season and the Class 4A state championship, on Friday was named Minnesota Miss Basketball for 2018.
The 6-foot-2 forward posted season averages of 15.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.8 blocked shots and 2.3 assists for the Lightning, which capped a 32-0 season with a 68-63 victory over Hopkins in the championship game.
Walstad beat out four other for finalists: Moorhead’s Sam Haiby, Grand Rapids’ Heaven Hamling, Goodhue’s Sydney Lodermeier and Sauk Centre’s Maesyn Thiesen for the award, which is awarded by the Minnesota Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association. She will play next season at the University of Wis.-Milwaukee.
