The Lightning advanced to the 4A title game after senior Megan Walstad scored six straight points and made a key shot block en route to a 57-47 victory.

Eastview had the energy that Lakeville North did not. And when it turned, it turned quickly.

The Lightning (31-0) broke open a tight game with a 12-0 run early in the second half en route to a 57-47 victory over its South Suburban Conference rival in the Class 4A semifinals.

“People ask us all the time what adjustments we make, but honestly, it has a lot to do with the mental side of the game and our philosophy of attacking,” Eastview coach Molly Kasper said.

First report

Eastview used a 12-0 run midway through the second half to turn a nip-and-tuck game to its advantage, pulling away to defeat Lakeville North 57-47 and advance to Saturday’s Class 4A championship game.

Senior forward Megan Walstad had been quiet for much of the game but sparked the run with six consecutive points and a key blocked shot on defense. Walstad finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Until Walstad’s key burst, the Lightning (31-0) had depended on the outside shooting of Andrea Abrams and Mariah Alipate for much of its offensive production. Abrams and Alipate combined for six three-pointers and 30 points.

It was the third time this season that the Panthers lost to their South Suburban Conference rivals, half of their loss total for the season. Lauren Jensen led the Lakeville North (25-6) with 20 points and Ke James added 11.
