State tournament set for Wednesday tip off

Hill-Murray and Hopkins have been ranked No. 1 in their respective classes for most of the season, and the Pioneers and Royals will carry that distinction into the girls’ basketball state tournament after earning the top seeds during Saturday’s seeding meeting.

Hill-Murray (28-0) is the only unbeaten team in the four-class tournament. The Pioneers will meet Red Wing (18-9) in a Class 3A quarterfinal matchup.

Hopkins (27-2) heads the Class 4A field and draws Buffalo (25-3) in the quarterfinals. Neither of the No. 1 seeds faced their opposition during the season.

The other three seeded teams in Class 4A are No. 2 Eden Prairie (23-4), No. 3 Lakeville North (27-2) and No. 4 Maple Grove (25-4). The other four teams are drawn randomly.

In Class 3A, the other seeds are No. 2 Benilde-St. Margaret’s (24-5), No. 3 DeLaSalle (24-4) and No. 4 Alexandria (24-3).

The Class 2A and 1A teams are not seeded.
