Lakeville North advances to section final

CLASS 4A

• SECTION 3: Lakeville North had little trouble in advancing to the section final, turning away Park of Cottage Grove 62-40. Junior center McKenzie Hoelmenn provided a spark off the bench, scoring a team-high 16 points for the Panthers, a season high for her. Senior center Apiew Ojulu chipped in with 15 points. The Panthers led 32-18 at halftime and then shot 61 percent in the second half.

CLASS 3A


• SECTION 2: Hutchinson led 38-17 at halftime but needed a desperation pass and shot in the final seconds to halt an upset bid by No. 4 seed Mankato East in a 52-51 Tigers victory. With 30 seconds remaining and Hutchinson trailing by one, junior forward Morgan Julius hauled in a 75-foot pass and scored.

• SECTION 5:
No. 4 seed Monticello fell in its two previous matchups with Big Lake this season, losing by 13 and 16 points. But the Magic found magic in its upset of No. 1 seed Big Lake, 53-48. Neither team led by more than four points, and Big Lake committed three turnovers late in the game that the Magic turned into points. Freshman guard Grace Sawatzke scored 20 points for Monticello.

• SECTION 6: Senior guard Jena Chuba led a steady Spartans point barrage as Orono knocked off Richfield 79-70 to advance to the section championship. Chuba scored a season-high 27 points, Richfield sophomore Jessica January finished with a game-high 36 points.

CLASS 2A

• SECTION 4: Minneapolis Edison advanced to the East subsection championship with a 58-42 victory over Concordia Academy. Seventh-grader Andrayah Adams paced the Tommies with 20 points, including 13 in the first half.

CLASS 1A

• SECTION 4: Senior forward Rachel Usgaard powered West Lutheran past St. Agnes 70-31 with her 25 points, moving the team on to the subsection championship.
