Skippers saved by buzzer-beater

MINNETONKA 64, BRAHAM 63: Class 4A, No. 9 Minnetonka got all it could handle from Class 2A, No. 1 Braham.Braham’s Rebekah Dahlman was fouledwith 3.7 seconds remaining in the game and hit both free throws to lift Braham ahead, 63-61. With no timeouts remaining, the Skippers’ Jenney Blackey took an outlet pass and fired to Ali McArthur, who banked in a 30-footer from the right wing at the buzzer. McArthur, a senior guard, finished with nine points. Sophomore guard Joanna Hedstrom led the team with a season-high 21 points.  Dahlman led all scorers with 32 points.

DELASALLE 51, MINNEHAHA ACADEMY 50: DeLaSalle clinched the Tri-Metro conference championship with a 51-50 win over last year’s Class 2A champion Minnehaha Academy.  Junior guard Mariah Adanene led the Islanders with 19 points in the win.  Senior forward Sarina Baker, whoplayed at DeLaSalle last year, had 17 points for Minnehaha..

DASSEL-COKATO 51, MOUND-WESTONKA 50: Junior guard Courtney Smith banked a pull-up jumper with 8.5 seconds left in the game to put the Chargers up by one. Mound-Westonka called a timeout right after that, but couldn’t get a shot off. Smith scored 10 points and junior forward Kelsey Hartkopf had 16 points.

EDEN PRAIRIE 71, WAYZATA 43: Eden Prairie remained perfect in the Lake, handily defeating Wayzata at home behind a 23-point performance from senior guard Morgan Van Riper Rose. Wayzata shot just 27 percent from the field, compared to 55 percent for Eden Prairie. With the loss, the Trojans dropped to 0-5 in the Lake.

EAGAN 57, BURNSVILLE 54: Junior forward Lindsey Gonsior recorded a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double and was eight for eight from the free throw line in a home victory over South Suburban foe Burnsville. Senior forward Jermisha Watson led the Blaze with 14 points. Eagan won by six when the teams last met on Jan. 11.

NEW PRAGUE 64, CHASKA 57: New Prague’s trio of junior Anna Rynda (20 points), senior Maggie Seter (19 points) and senior Taylor Rookaird (16 points) led New Prague to the home victory in Missota play. Freshman center Ellie Thompson led Chaska with 21 points in the loss.

COON RAPIDS 60, ANDOVER 57: Down one at halftime, Coon Rapids’ coaching staff turned to junior center Bridget Schirmers. After starting for the junior varsity team earlier in the night, Schirmers came off the bench for the varsity to score all 15 of her points in seven minutes to push the Cardinals over the edge.

ORONO 55, WATERTOWN-MAYER 53: With 30 seconds remaining in the game and her team down 55-53, junior Orono guard Amie Tunheim hit a three-pointer to give the Spartans the lead for good. Tunheim’s teammate, senior center Alicia Johnson, posted a double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and six steals.
