Dick Simpson stands at 496 victories

Dick Simpson of Brandon-Evansville is looking to become the 12th girls’ high school coach to reach 500 career wins before the end of the season.

Simpson currently owns a career record of 496-255. The Chargers are 6-9 on the year and had eight regular season games remaining as they prepared to play Rothsay on Friday night.

Seven of the 11 coaches who have reached the milestone are still active. Mike Dreier of New London-Spicer is the winningest coach (740-128) in state history. He is the only one of the group to have eclipsed 700 career victories.

Greg Amundson of Columbia Heights has a career record of 572-213, but is only in his second season with the Hylanders and doesn’t appear on the list. He won 569 games in North Dakota, 508 of which came at Mandan.
