Edina shuts down January

EDINA 49, RICHFIELD 38: The Hornets spent all practice on Monday preparing for Richfield sophomore guard Jessica January, and it paid off. Edina held January to two points in the first half, and a season-low 10 for the game in the nonconference victory. January's previous season low was 24. The Hornets played half-court defense, but shadowed January for all 94 feet, cycling three girls on her all night. Hannah Wise had 16 points for Richfield, which only trailed by four points with a few minutes remaining. Edina pulled away down the stretch from the free-throw line, where it went 17-for-21 in the second half.

CENTENNIAL 72, MAPLE GROVE 62: Danika Gieske had her second best outing of the season, scoring 26 points in the Cougars' victory over the Crimson in the Northwest Suburban. The output came on the heels of a 28-point performance.

OSSEO 59, CHAMPLIN PARK 49: The Orioles gradually pulled away from the Rebels in the second half for the Northwest Suburban victory after holding a slim two-point lead at the intermission. Sophomore guard Janay Morton led four Osseo players in double figures with 16 points. Orioles sophomore guard Phyllis Webb scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half. Champlin Park junior guard Kate Darnell led all scorers with 17 points.

ANNANDALE 56, DASSEL-COKATO 53: Sophomore point guard Kaytlin Kuefler scored 19 of her 25 points in the second half when the Cardinals overcame a 13-point deficit to beat the Chargers in the Wright County. Dassel-Cokato missed a tying three-pointer at the buzzer.

MINNEHAHA ACADEMY 65, ST. ANTHONY 45: Senior center Katelyn Adams had a double-double (20 points and 10 rebounds) as the Redhawks beat the Huskies in the Tri-Metro.

LAKEVILLE NORTH 75, EASTVIEW 64: Gophers recruit Rachel Banham, a senior guard, scored a season-best 30 points as the Panthers downed the Lightning in the South Suburban. The victory was Lakeville North’s eighth consecutive.

PRIOR LAKE 46, BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 42: Megan Pold (19 points) and Mariah Hovick (15 points) combined for 34 points, leading the Lakers past the Jaguars in the South Suburban.

WATERTOWN-MAYER 67, HUTCHINSON 64: Junior guard Marrisa Janning scored a career-high 33 points in the Royals’ victory over the Tigers in the Wright County. Janning also had eight rebounds and eight assists.
