Jenna Dockter
Minutes after winning the first round of the Dick's Sporting Goods Classic against Maple Grove, we caught up with Eastview's Jenna Dockter to find out a little more about her, off the court:
Q So how did you get into this sport, anyway?
A In third grade, I got into basketball because my brother and my sister played and my dad was the coach. I went to all my brother's traveling games and really got into it.
Q Who would you say is your greatest basketball influence?
A My sister [who is one year older and played at Eastview until last year]. It wasn't even the playing time she got that I admired her for, but just how hard she worked. We had a basketball court in our back yard, she'd rebound for me, I'd rebound for her, and we'd shoot around. When she comes home from college, we still play around.
Q What about outside of the family? Any pro or college idols?
A I really like Rajon Rondo because he's a point guard like me, and even though he doesn't always score, he's always working hard, getting assists.
Q Do you have any pregame rituals?
A I'm always the last person to be ready. I have to lace up my ankle bracelets really tight, and I always strap them three times. I just kinda like the number three. And I always eat French toast or Captain Crunch and berries before a game.
Q What's on your iPod these days?
A I like mostly rap, like Eminem, but I'll put my Taylor Swift in there too.
Q What's your favorite non-basketball hobby?
A Probably swimming. I'm a lifeguard in the summer [at the Apple Valley Aquatics Center, with teammates Claire Elliott and Amanda and Alex Beckman], so I get to swim a lot.
Q What's your ideal future career?
A Something in the medical field; probably a nurse or a doctor. My mom's a nurse and my dad's a pharmacist.
