Down by three at halftime and playing from behind most of the game this past Saturday, White Bear Lake head coach Jeremy Post got vocal in the locker room.

Senior forward Rochelle Regnier answered the call. Of her team-leading 17 points, 15 of them came in the second half. It helped push the Bears to a 56-50 victory over a solid Red Wing team in the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic at Hopkins.

“I called her out at halftime. She needed to be better,” Post said. “I talked about her defense and got her a little bit fired up and she was a big difference in that.”

Post is hopeful for the season, but is still searching for the right recipe. Inexperience will give the Bears growing pains after losing four starters on a 29-3 state runner-up squad.

“We’re struggling to find five kids that understand what’s going on, but we’ll get there,” Post said. “We had a good year last year but we’re a different team. It’s going to take a while to get it going.”

The Bears may look a lot different, but as evidenced by Saturday, they still have the ability to string together wins.

"There's a lot of pressure, a lot of expectations and then you got a tough schedule. We'll get there," Post said. "It doesn't get easier. Prior Lake's next."
