The Totino-Grace Eagles had to feel a little bit snake bitten to begin the 2010 basketball season. The squad opened with a one point loss to Roseville on a half-court bomb at the buzzer and then had to face arguably the best team in the state regardless of class in the Hill-Murray Pioneers. The 0-2 start didn’t get the Eagles down and they have recovered nicely with two straight wins including an impressive 77-61 victory over Apple Valley.
The teams exchanged leads during the first half that saw leads by both teams, but neither able to run away. What was apparent was that T-G’s Gabby Zehrer was in for a big night.
The tide turned less than two minutes into the second half when Apple Valley’s Jordan Sammons picked up her third and fourth fouls and was forced to the bench. The lone senior on the Valley squad would not return until the 12 minute mark and by then, the home squad had extended their lead to double digits.
