Senior Megan Scherber gives Jags 52-45 victory over Sauk Centre

When Bloomington Jefferson needed a boost, the Jaguars got one from senior Megan Scherber.  The 5-foot-10 center found her touch outside the three-point arc, pouring in four treys and scoring a team-high 15 points to lead the Jaguars to a 52-45 victory over Sauk Centre in the Breakdown Sports Tip Off Classic at Hopkins.

Scherber, whose younger sister Britney has been the most heavily recruited member of her family, hit three early three-pointers to give Jefferson a 31-23 halftime lead.  But when the scrappy Mainstreeters closed to within 32-31 early in the second half, Scherber again went to work.

"Megan is playing like a senior right now," said Jefferson coach Andy Meinhardt.  "A lot of people talk about her little sister, but Megan is a very good player, as well."

Anna Smith had a good all-around game for Jefferson, scoring 12 points and playing outstanding defense.  The Jaguars focused on stopping Sauk Centre's high-scoring duo of Kali Peschel (16 points) and Megan Greenwaldt (6).

"We wanted to put a lot of heat on them," said Meinhardt.

Macy Weller took advantage, scoring 12 points and helping keep the Mainstreeters close.  But after closing to within one, the Jaguars put the game away.

"Good teams that advance in March know how to grind out games, and I think we did that today," said Meinhardt.

Scherber, a senior center, hasn't had the recognition of her little sister Britney, but Megan was certainly the catalyst for the Jaguars' 52-45 victory over Sauk Centre.  She hit three early three-pointers as the Mainstreeters sagged off her, giving Jefferson an eight-point halftime lead.  She stayed productive in the second half, as well, finishing with a team-high 15 points.
