Basket at the buzzer allows top-ranked Braham to get past No. 3 Providence Academy

BRAHAM 46, PROVIDENCE ACADEMY 45: Junior guard Austyn Eng isn't known for her scoring. The Bombers' top reserve pulled down an offensive rebound and hit an off-balance shot at the buzzer as Class 2A, No. 1 Braham edged the No. 3 Lions in the Breakdown Classic on Saturday at Hopkins High School. Eng entered the game with 1 minute, 2 seconds left when Braham's leading scorer, sophomore guard Rebekah Dahlman, fouled out. Dahlman finished with 18 points, and Eng's basket provided her only points of the game. Senior guard Kelsey Wiebusch had nine points to pace Providence Academy's balanced offensive attack.

• BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 51, BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S 49: It took two attempts, but Kennedy freshman Kenisha Bell eventually got the winning basket over the defending Class 3A state champs at the Breakdown Classic. With the score tied 49-49 and the Eagles looking to hold for the final shot, Bell drove from the right wing as time wound down. Her running floater came up short, but the guard was able to snag the rebound and score as time expired. Bell was all over the place for Kennedy, leading all players with 18 points.

• ST. PAUL CENTRAL 61, MARANATHA 45: This time around, St. Paul Central junior guard Jen'Von'Ta Hill made sure her player-of-the game performance helped her team win. Hill was among three from Central to score in double figures, leading the Minutemen with 16 points. Sophomore center Sade Chatman added 12 points and senior forward Maja Cyrus 10. Hill earned player-of-the-game honors in the Breakdown Classic for the second consecutive year, last year doing so in a loss. Maranatha junior guard Alexis Long led all scorers with 21 points for the Mustangs.

• WHITE BEAR LAKE 56, RED WING 50: It was a tale of two halves for White Bear Lake's Rochelle Regnier against Red Wing at the Breakdown Classic. White Bear trailed 30-27 at halftime, but the senior forward scored 15 of her 17 points after the break to help the Bears turn back the Wingers. White Bear junior guard Alexis Foley scored 12 points and senior center Samantha Guenther added nine.

• MAPLE GROVE 52, PRIOR LAKE 48: Maple Grove senior guard Courtney Jones sank two free throws with 1:36 remaining as the Crimson held off Prior Lake in their game at the Breakdown Classic. Prior Lake led 25-19 at the half, but Maple Grove rode a 33-23 second-half surge to race past the Lakers. Crimson senior guard Stephanie Davison led everybody with 14 points.

• BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 52, SAUK CENTRE 45: Most centers aren't known for their three-point-shooting prowess, but apparently nobody ever told that to Megan Scherber. Jefferson's senior center buried four from beyond the arc and led the Jaguars with 15 points as Jefferson topped Sauk Centre at the Breakdown Classic. Jefferson jumped out to a 31-23 halftime lead and held off the Mainstreeters.

• OSSEO 73, CALEDONIA 33: Junior guard Mikaya Bailey and sophomore forward Phillis Webb led the way, but it was a well-rounded team effort that helped the Orioles sink Caledonia at the Breakdown Classic. Bailey and Webb each scored 15 points, while sophomore Janay Morton scored 13 and senior Cy'erra Mills 11. Osseo jumped out to a 43-19 halftime lead. Caledonia senior guard Amber Sorenson led the Warriors with 12 points.

• EASTVIEW 55, ORONO 41: Eastview senior guard Alex Beckman led all scorers with a season-high 19 points as the Lightning rolled past Orono at the Breakdown Classic. Beckman's twin sister, Amanda, scored eight points, as did senior guard Jenna Dockter and junior forward Hannah Shie. Seniors Jena Chuba and Alicia Johnson led the Spartans with 10 points each.
