It didn’t take us long to find a marquee matchup of two very talented guards. The 10:30 a.m. game features Red Wing’s Tesha Buck versus White Bear Lake’s Alexis Foley. Both are big strong guards who are receiving a lot of attention from Division 1 scouts. Both teams like to run and shoot, so the first game on Lindbergh East could be a shootout.

Red Wing graduated two of its top three scorers from last season’s 21-7 team. However, leading scorer Tesha Buck is back for her sophomore season and hopes to improve on her 16.3 scoring average. Look for the
Wingers to play a full-court game and really bother its opponents with its press.

White Bear Lake went all the way to the Class AAAA state championship last season before losing to powerhouse Lakeville North. Head coach Jeremy Post’s teams are always very team oriented squads that share the ball well. The Bears are led by junior guard Alexis Foley, who is about as strong as they come.  This left-handed soccer standout really attacks the rim and can finish with contact.

Red Wing is really going to try to turn White Bear Lake over and get easy
baskets off of its full court press. The Wingers did this affectively in their first two games of the year, averaging 75 points per game and turning the other team over an average of 30+ times. Alexis Foley will try to lead her team in breaking this press and getting easy baskets over the top.

Why Red Wing will win:
The Wingers will use their press to turn White Bear Lake over, leading to easy scoring opportunities.  Their plethora of capable three-point shooters will get hot behind the arc.

Why White Bear Lake will win:
The Bears will use their height and length advantage to control the glass.  They will attack the basket to get Red Wing in foul trouble and expose its lack of depth.
