First Report

In its first year in Class 2A, Section 5, Holy Family Catholic is certainly making an impression. In a back-and-forth battle with Providence Academy, the Fire prevailed by a score of 49-40 to reach the section championship.

After trailing 23-21 at halftime, Holy Family came out strong defensively in the second half and held the Lions to only 17 points in the semifinal. Providence Academy's leading scorer Clara Counts, who posted a game-high 15 points, scored only two in the second half.

The Fire were led by Molly Smith, who scored 14 points, and Brooke Bowlin, who scored 12 points.

This is only the second time since the 2010-11 season that Providence Academy has not played for the Class 2A, Section 5 section championship.

Holy Family will play Annandale for the section title on Friday, March 11 in St. Cloud.
