Tuesday's Class 2A, Section 5 semifinal was a matchup of familiar foes as Wright County Conference members Watertown-Mayer and Annandale met for the third time this season .

A close game throughout most of the night, the Cardinals pulled away from the league rival Royals in the closing minutes to reach the section championship for the third straight year by a score of 60-49.

Annandale's Kamryn D'Heilly scored a game-high 23 points. Hannah Purcell and Emma Atkinson chipped in 16 and 12 points, respectively, as the Cardinals picked up the rubber match victory at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

Kirstin Klitzke led Watertown-Mayer with 15 total points, but was held to just four points in the second half. Claire Killian and Monika Czinano each scored 13.

Annandale will look to return to the state tournament for the second straight year when they face the winner of the Holy Family Catholic/ Providence Academy game in the section final on Friday, March 11th at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud.
