Park shooter sets scoring record

Sydney Lamberty let longtime friend and former teammate Larissa Lurken, who now plays at Kent State, hold the Park of Cottage Grove girls’ basketball career scoring record for all of about 10 months.

Lamberty, a senior guard who signed with Creighton University in November, broke Lurken’s record of 1,735 points in a 60-41 victory over Rosemount on Dec. 10. Through Tuesday, Lamberty has 1,801 career points. She is averaging 24.4 points per game.

More record breaking

Woodbury senior Justin Herold-Plakut became the school’s winningest wrestler on Dec. 7 in a meet at Lakeville North. Herold-Plakutt, who finished third at 152 pounds in the 2013 Class 3A state meet, broke Dave Albrecht’s previous record of 176 victories. He has since added to that total and had 182 victories going into a dual meet Thursday against Cretin-Derham Hall. Herold-Plakutt is ranked No. 2 in the state at 160 pounds.

Forest Lake senior forward Brett Gravelle had back-to-back hat tricks in a 4-4 tie with White Bear Lake and a 3-3 tie with Roseville. Gravelle’s streak of scoring at least one goal in seven consecutive games ended in a 7-1 loss to Stillwater on Monday. Going into Thursday’s game at East Ridge, he led the Rangers with 13 goals and 16 points.
