New Richland's star guard bolsters Gophers' 2014 recruiting class

Star Tribune

The University of Minnesota snatched up one of the state's top girls' basketball recruits. New Richland-H-E-G junior point guard Carlie Wagner verbally committed to the Gophers this week, using Twitter to proclaim she is at peace with her decision.

"That feeling of knowing you made the right choice," she Tweeted.

Wagner owns the state tournament's single game scoring record of 48 points. As a sophomore she averaged 29 points per game and is averaging 32.7 this season and is among the state's leaders in assists (86).

NRHEG is 17-1 and ranked No. 2 in Class 2A.

The addition of Wagner helps fill the void of losing Bloomington Kennedy standout guard Kenisha Bell's verbal commitment.

Wagner is also track and field Class A state champion in the high jump.
