Preview

For the first time in the history of the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic, we welcome in two out of state teams, and this game features one of them.  Mason City comes to town with big time guard Jada Buckley to take on an uber-talented Bloomington Kennedy team. Buckley is a consensus top 100 recruit nationally and will be heading to Iowa State next year. She is joined in the back-court by 2014 Creighton recruit, Myah Mellman.  Bloomington Kennedy has already played a brutal schedule this season, including a narrow loss to No. 1 Hopkins on its home court.

Key Matchup

Kenisha Bell vs Jada Buckley

This should shape up to be one of the best guard battles you will see.  Both players are ranked in the top 100 by multiple national recruiting gurus and some even have both in the top 50 in their respective classes.  Buckley is multitalented on offense and possesses an outstanding three point shot. Bell is a flashy athlete who attacks the basket and finishes up near the rim.

Prediction

Why Bloomington Kennedy will win:

  • The Eagles have superior depth and just keep coming at you in waves; they will win the battle of bench points.
  • They have a definite advantage in the paint, and will win the game there.

Why Mason City will win:

  • Buckley is capable of willing a team to victory every time she steps on the floor, regardless of the circumstances.
  • They are a superior three point shooting team, and both Mellman and Buckley will get hot beyond the arc.

Our Prediction: Mason City
