Maddyn Greenway is electric. Maple Grove coach Mark Cook has felt the shock.
“She is a great player,” Cook said. “The way Maddyn has matured through the years and her decision making are top notch.”
Providence Academy’s 5-8 junior guard drove the Lions to an 82-75 comeback victory over Cook’s Crimson in the season opener after Maple Grove led by nine points with six minutes to play.
All these months and games later, Providence Academy, a Class 2A team, has been ranked first in the Star Tribune’s statewide girls basketball ranking, ahead of Maple Grove, a much larger school in Minnesota’s Class 4A. The victory served as a springboard to Greenway and the Lions’ 26-0 regular-season record.
