Eastview's girls' basketball team was only .500 through its first six games but has seen its fortunes change since. A big reason why has been the play of senior forward Amber Mehr. Here is a closer look at Mehr:

The best movie I've seen in the last year: "Bridesmaids."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod: "25 to Life" by Eminem, "Take Care" by Drake, "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me: Honest, persistent, nice.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I manage school and sports by staying caught up on my work and time management. I do a lot of work on Sundays.

What is your favorite meal before a game? Mac and cheese.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... nervous and excited to be on the team.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Going to state in basketball my freshman year.

What did you work on in the offseason? In the offseason, I worked on my shot, conditioning and strength.

What were your goals entering the season? My goal is to win the [South Suburban] conference and to go to state.

If you could change one thing about high school basketball, what would it be? Play more games.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... out of college with a job working as a nurse or physical therapist.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Play hard and do your best, and you will have fun.
