An impressive nine-point road victory over Lakeville North last Friday night put the Bloomington Kennedy girls' basketball team alone at the top in the South Suburban Conference standings. That's an unfamiliar place for most teams -- the loss was the Panthers' first in 37 games. But there was little celebration on the Eagles' part at the final buzzer.

"It's not March," said sophomore Tonoia Wade, who had a game-high 18 points, 15 on three-pointers. "Our expectation here was to win. But it will mean a lot more down the road." Kennedy has the horses to be one of the teams in the mix as tournament season revs up at the end of next month. Wade is one of five Eagles' players averaging more than 10 points per game for a team that averages north of 70 points per game.

"Our whole starting lineup is our leading scorer," Wade said.

Kennedy continues conference play Friday at Rosemount.

Worth noting

• Watertown-Mayer senior Marissa Janning went over the 3,000-point mark in her career with a 32-point effort in a victory over LeSueur-Henderson on Friday.

• Tessa Cichy became the first basketball player of either gender at Hill-Murray to surpass 2,000 career points, with a 21-point outing in a 67-48 loss to Richfield on Tuesday.
