When Benilde-St. Margaret’s guard Olivia Olson pulled up and hit a jump shot in the final seconds of Thursday’s first half, the Red Knights faithful rose to their feet.

They most likely did so for the excitement of a buzzer-beating shot, but it was also a symbolic ovation for the show Olson put on. The standout junior poured in 22 first-half points that helped Benilde-St. Margaret’s build a 20-point lead at halftime and helped the Red Knights defeat Holy Angels 71-47 and win the Class 3A, Section 6 championship.

The game belonged to Olson from the very start. To open the game, she went on a 10-point run, eventually forcing the Stars to call a timeout in an early deficit.

“Everyone was super unselfish,” Olson said. “My teammates found me under the basket, and I’m just super grateful that everyone worked hard to get it done.”
