East Ridge coach Ashley Ellis-Milan has been preaching the defensive side of the ball all season. It’s how the Raptors have come to allow an impressive 46.5 ppg prior to Friday night’s action at East Ridge High School.

Going into such an important game as the matchup against Stillwater (20-4) was, defense was the name of the game yet again for the Raptors (20-4). Despite great shooting surges, it was the other side of the ball that earned the Raptors an all-important 65-52 win over their Suburban East Conference rivals.

First Report

Going into Friday night’s matchup at East Ridge High School, the battle of offense versus defense was highly publicized. As the game between Stillwater (20-3) and East Ridge (19-4) continued, it was clear that defense won that battle as the Raptors hounded the Ponies all night.

The Raptors never gave any room to breathe. Even after they took a 26-13 lead halfway through the first period, the Raptors never let up the pressure. It led to countless steals and turnovers that the Ponies couldn’t overcome. In the end, East Ridge edged out Stillwater 65-52 for what was an all-important win for the Suburban East title race.

Junior forward Isabell Sanneh looked unstoppable all night, ending with 26 points while averaging 12.2 ppg on the season. Her light-out shooting, combined some soft passing, helped get her Raptors into an early lead that proved to be too much for the Ponies to overcome.

Now, with two games remaining for each team, East Ridge holds a one-game lead over Stillwater for first place in the Suburban East Conference.
