Last Tuesday, the Browerville Tigers girls’ basketball team traveled to Upsala looking for their first win of the year.
The Tigers would have no such luck against a well rounded Upsala Cardinals team, losing 74-46.
Browerville struggled early on as they allowed Upsala to open the game with an 18-0 run.
Much like many teams this year, the Tigers struggled to hold Upsala guard Aimee Pelzer in check. She scored 17 points in the contest.
“Upsala is as good as advertised and is a very balanced team,” head coach Matt Middendorf said. “Pelzer sees the floor so well and sets up her teammates for easy buckets.”
The Tigers struggled against the full court pressure of Upsala.
Middendorf emphasized Browerville’s need to be more consistent in the press breaker and make turnovers into shot attempts.
“Our kids worked hard and competed but you have to give credit to Upsala who will make it tough on a majority of teams this winter,” Middendorf said.
Eighth grader Paige Callahan led the lady Tigers with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Makenna Hegseth and Crystal Pearson each scored nine points.
Upsala's Pelzer scored a game high 17 points. She also finished with seven assists and six steals.
Senior Kimmy Mrozek finished with 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Both teams will next play on Dec. 16. Upsala hosts St. John's Prep while Browerville travels to Swanville.
