Knights use full court pressure to blow past Tigers

After playing two games in the first week of the season, the Browerville Tigers’ girls basketball team had a light week with only one matchup against the West Central Area Knights.

The Tigers’ inexperience showed in this game as WCA used full court pressure to force many turnovers en route to a 61-27 win.

“We don’t have much experience playing against a press and we struggled to break it consistently,” head coach Matt Middendorf said.

Browerville also struggled to slow down WCA’s senior Jen Froemming who scored a game high 19 points.

On such a young team, the Tigers are often being led by their eighth graders Crystal Pearson and Paige Callahan.

Callahan continued her season long trend of playing well finishing with nine points and nine rebounds. Pearson pulled down four rebounds, had four steals, and dished out four assists.

“Pearson and Callahan continue to get better with every contest,” Middendorf said. “They are playing physical and are executing their assignments consistently.”

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 0-3 on the year. However, Middendorf is happy with the strides the team is making.

“At times we show signs of greatness but we just need to get in a flow where we can run our offense each time down the floor,” he said.
