Bulldogs fail to hold halftime lead falling to Hornets 53-45

The Swanville Bulldogs girls’ basketball team continued their season last Tuesday when they hosted the Henning Hornets. Swanville took a 29-26 lead going into halftime but failed to keep pace in the second half, falling 53-45.

Head coach Aaron Gapinski commended the girls for battling all year.

“We really need to get healthy,” he said. “We don’t have a lot of depth and we have girls trying to play through illnesses.”

Gapinski said he really likes how well the girls have done rebounding this season but need to do a better job communicating with each other on the floor and continue playing with confidence.

“Our captains Lexi and Molly have been doing an outstanding job for us motivating the girls,” Gapinski said. “We are in a tough stretch in our schedule with eight games in 17 calendar games so the girls are being asked to make adjustments on the fly and try to get healthy. Overall I’m proud of the girls’ attitudes and desire so far.”

Marissa Evans had yet another double-double finishing with 20 points and 16 rebounds. He also added seven steals.

Swanville will square off against Eagle Valley on Dec. 8 in Prairie Conference game.
