After three losses in its first eight games, including a Dec. 21 loss to Rosemount, Shakopee has turned on the jets and not looked back, winning every game since then. On Tuesday, the Sabers’ 17-game winning streak broke the previous record during head coach Juan Mitchell’s tenure when his 2016 squad won 16 in a row.

The Sabers (22-3, 16-1) earned that 17th consecutive win as they defeated Lakeville North 47-32. Despite their less-than-average offensive output — they’ve only scored less than 47 points in two other games this season — the Sabers were able to hold off the Panthers (16-9, 12-5) and their standout sophomore Trinity Wilson.

First Report

Despite being held to its third-lowest offensive output of the season, Shakopee was able to extend its winning streak to 17 games as it held Lakeville North to just 32 points on Tuesday night at Shakopee High School. The Sabers won 47-32.

The Sabers started well, aided by a pair of three-pointers and three early free throws, and they led the Panthers 12-3 five minutes into the game. The Sabers were all over rebounds on both offense and defense and took a 12-point lead into the second half. Senior Kate Cordes paced the Sabers’ offense with 17 points followed by senior Jasmyn Hale, who tied a season high with 14 points.

Panthers’ leading scorer Trinity Wilson, a sophomore, led the Panthers with 10 points.
