St. Michael-Albertville girls’ basketball players hadn’t dumped water on their coach in celebration before. But Tuesday night’s overtime victory called for it, so they drenched his shirt and tie, his face and hair with water in the locker room.

“We’ve always wanted to,” said junior Tessa Johnson. “We were just feeling it tonight.”

The Knights were feeling it on the basketball court, too, with an 80-76 victory over Wayzata in a clash of a couple of top-10 ranked teams Tuesday night at Wayzata High School. The teams were tied at 25 at halftime and  68 to end regulation before Johnson and her senior teammate Emma Miller combined for the Knights’ overtime points.

“Those two are in the gym all the time,” Knights coach Kent Hamre said. “No coincidence that good things happen to them when stuff like that goes on.”
