PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUND UP: Burmeister breaks Jackson County Central scoring record

JACKSON — Whitney Burmeister became the all-time leading scorer at Jackson County Central on her final two free throws of the night Tuesday. Burmeister now has 1,401 career points, passing her sister Brooke. Whitney finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, seven steals and six blocks to lead JCC’s girls’ basketball team to a 65-43 win over Saint James.

Marita Rasche added a double-double for JCC, scoring 13 points, hauling in 10 rebounds and forcing six steals. Lydia Brandt added 12 points and six boards and Julia Schumann added eight points, seven rebounds and four steals to help lead the Huskies (3-0).

Julia Runge scored 15 points and Katelynn Love scored 11 points to lead Saint James in the team’s season opener.

JCC will play its next game Saturday at Spirit Lake.
