Preview

Jefferson's Britney Scherber

Next up on the “Old Court” is a match-up between first tier suburbs, one from the north and one from the south. We are really looking forward to this game between Roseville and Jefferson, as they are two teams who don’t have a history of playing each other. We also believe that this will be one of the more competitive match-ups of the day.

Roseville Area is led once again by junior point guard Jacqlyn Poss, who just recently gave her verbal commitment to attend the University of Denver in the fall of 2013. Poss is already going into her fourth year of varsity action and is Roseville’s only captain this year as just a junior. The Raiders are coming off a very successful 18-10 season last season and are looking to build on that this year. Unfortunately, they always find themselves in the same section as powerhouse Osseo, which has knocked them out of the post season in both of the last two years.

Coach Andy Meinhardt likes his chances this year to compete in a very competitive Section 2AAAA. Who can blame him? Anytime you have the best player on the floor, which he usually does in senior Britney Scherber, you usually have a good chance of winning most games. They are coming off an very successful 20-8 season last year, and are looking to replace the scoring of Anna Smith, now at the University of St. Thomas.

Key Players

Roseville's Jacqlyn Poss

Jacqlyn Poss, Roseville vs.
Brittney Scherber, Jefferson

A marquee match-up of Division 1 bound point guards. Both are similar in that they play the point guard position but do so while being the main scorer for their team. Hopefully we get to see them battle head-to-head on both ends of the floor, but you never know how each coach will game plan.

Prediction

Why Roseville Area will win:

  • Their scrappy guard play allows them to keep the ball out of Scherber’s hands as much as possible, and neutralizes her impact on the game.
  • They are able to take advantages of mis-matches inside with Monica Burich and Larissa Graham in the post.

Why Bloomington Jefferson will win:

  • Brooke Fritzlar will immerge as a legitimate No. 2 scoring option for Jefferson and take pressure off Scherber.
  • Their 5-out motion offense is difficult for Roseville to figure out and defend and leads to wide open cutters and shots.

Our prediction: Bloomington Jefferson – in the closest contest of the day
