Senior guard Elly Bahr’s 25 points and a stifling defense helped the Elks to a 56-51 victory in the Class 4A, Section 8 final.

Friday night was atypical of the Elk River girls’ basketball team’s regular season, when the Elks had won all but four of their games by double digits.

But behind senior guard Elly Bahr’s 25 points — including five three-pointers — and a trademark stifling defense, the Elks staved off comeback attempts by St. Michael-Albertville and won 56-51 for the Class 4A, Section 8 championship.

“That’s what we talked about before the game,” Elks coach Jeremy Digiovanni said. “Whatever it takes to win a playoff game, we have to go and do it. And they were willing to put themselves on the line for each other.”

The top-seeded Elks (19-1), playing at home, fell behind 10-4 as Knights guard Emma Miller made her first two three-point shots, kick-starting her 19-point effort.
