Top games: Unbeatens Providence and Minnehaha academies collide for early season supremacy

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.




Other games to keep an eye on

Minnetonka vs. St. Michael-Albertville, 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5. No. 7-4A Minnetonka (5-1) has proven it's one of the state's top teams, losing 63-62 to powerhouse No. 1-4A Hopkins on Jan. 26 in Hopkins, and then rallying to defeat No. 9-4A Eden Prairie 62-55 three days later. St. Michael-Albertville (4-2) is coming off a 70-30 win against Moorhead on Jan. 30, with Kendal Cox scoring a game-high 21 points.

Hermantown at Virginia, 7:15 p.m., Monday, Feb. 1. Virginia (5-0) has won all its games on the road. Monday's matchup is the home opener for the Blue Devils, who feature a good inside-out game. Hermantown (4-1) just suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 71-59 decision at Superior (Wisc.) on Jan. 28.
