In a game in which both teams struggled to score, Waseca did just enough to knock off unbeaten fourth-seed Pelican Rapids.
Each team made one made field goal in the game’s first nine minutes, with the Vikings holding a 4-2 lead with a pair of free throws.
“(That’s) how we play,” Waseca coach Joan Conway said. “As long as we are defending, we are in the game. I’m sure it looked awful from outside, but we felt confident.”
In a game in which both teams struggled to score, Waseca did just enough to knock off unbeaten fourth-seed Pelican Rapids 38-22 at Williams Arena.
Each team had one made field goal in the first nine minutes of the game, with the Vikings taking a 4-2 lead with a pair of free throws.
The Bluejays made a few more shots, including a halftime buzzer-beater by Camryn McQuery, to take a 13-11 lead into halftime.
The Bluejays never trailed from there. They went on a 12-2 run to take a 12-point lead with 3:24 left to play.
The Bluejays' defense forced the Vikings to spend most of their offensive possessions passing the ball around the perimeter without getting good looks at the basket.
Waseca's Hannah Potter had 12 points to lead all scorers and was the one to reach double figures. Rachel Breck added six points and nine rebounds for the Bluejays.
