Top-seed DeLaSalle and under-rated Hibbing got what they expected from one another to start.

Hibbing brought purpose and DeLaSalle applied pressure defense. The Bluejackets led coming out of halftime and that’s when the Islanders changed their defense and their fate.

DeLaSalle’s zone defense and Hibbing’s inability to shoot over it or drive past it became the difference in the Islanders’ 61-53 victory Wednesday at Maturi Pavilion.

“We weren’t panicked,” said freshman forward Sydney Runsewe, who led all scorers with 18 points. “We talked about what we needed to change and do better and that’s what we did in the second half.”
