Another week, another battle between the elite teams in the Big 9 Conference. This week, the spotlight shines again on No. 9-4A Rochester Mayo, which travels to No. 7-3A Mankato West Tuesday for a showdown between the last two conference teams that are undefeated.
Mayo (7-0) edged crosstown rival Rochester John Marshall 53-47 on Feb. 5. The Spartans picked up a double-double from Drake commit Anna Miller (25 points, 12 rebounds) to hold off the Rockets.
Now the Spartans travel to fellow Mankato West (7-0), which doesn't have the size to combat the 6-foot-4 Miller, but will instead rely on long, lanky guards such as Southwest Minnesota State-bound Briana Stoltzman, junior Lani Schoper, and sophomore Teresa Kiewiet. The trio combined for 41 points and five three-pointers in the Scarlets' 52-32 win over John Marshall on Jan. 30.
