If basketball fans around the state haven't heard of Madison Mathiowetz they might want to take note. The sophomore guard for Sleepy Eye St. Mary's has emerged as one of the state's most dynamic offensive players this season, averaging 28.5 points per game.

Mathiowetz's scoring power was on display the last time the Knights (17-2, 11-2) faced Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Jan. 3, when she scored 50 points in her team's 83-79 loss.

After posting a 10-16 record last season, Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (16-3, 9-3) and Sleepy Eye St. Mary's are both in contention for a top seed in the Class 2A, Section 2 North subsection.

Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart, much like the Knights, has found success with its offense, which averages more than 70 points per game. And the Mustangs have performed with multiple contributors, including Sara Kottke, Maddy Wulkan, and Allison Milbrandt, who each average more than 11 points per game.
