Fergus Falls vs. Alexandria

7:15 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24

Fergus Falls has put fellow Class 2A title contenders on notice. Aside from a season-opening defeat to No. 2-4A Wayzata, the Otters have been flawless in stitching together a 13-game winning streak.

Playing in the Central Lakes Conference, with primarily Class 3A and even some Class 4A opponents this season, Fergus Falls (13-1, 7-0) has proven to be a contender.

Ellie Colbeck, Sabrina Fronning and Tori Ratz are a trio of scorers the No. 2-2A Otters rely on. Colbeck, a sophomore guard, scored a season-high 25 points in a 70-49 win at Bemidji on Jan. 3.

Before Fergus Falls made the move down to Class 2A this season, the Otters and Alexandria had quite a recent rivalry in Class 3A, Section 8 title games. Fergus Falls clinched the title in a 43-42 victory over the Cardinals last season and in 2018 the Cardinals won the hardware with a one-point defeat of the Otters.

While those section battles might be history, a win for Alexandria (13-3, 7-1) would help it gain a first-place tie in the conference standings.

A pair of seniors, Ella Grove and Mia McGrane, have driven Alexandria's offense by regularly producing double-digit points totals.
