Minneapolis North vs. Minneapolis South

7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22

Minneapolis South has controlled the rivalry with Minneapolis North in recent years, winning eight straight games over the Polars. The last time North defeated South was on Dec. 19, 2014.

South’s streak almost came to an end this season, but it eked out a 60-58 win over North on Dec. 4 behind sophomore Jade J. Hill (20.2 ppg) and senior Solana Cushing (15.8 ppg), who combined for 43 points to lead the Tigers (10-5, 6-0).

North has finished with just two conference losses each of the last two seasons — all to South.

If the No. 8-2A Polars (10-3, 5-1) want to finally get over that hump on Tuesday, they may need another impressive performance from Alani Pettis (12.5 ppg), who scored 21 in the last meeting against South. She was joined by a supporting cast of center Tiffany T. McNeill, who scored 15 points, and Jasmine Jackson, who added 10.
