Waseca vs. New Ulm

7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8

One team will suffer its first Big South East loss of the season when Waseca and New Ulm clash Tuesday.

Waseca began the season with a nine-game winning streak, but lost a Dec. 28 matchup 51-44 to Red Wing. The Blue Jays bounced back after the defeat, winning the next three games by an average of 36.7 points. Madison Gehloff, averaging a team-best 20.8 points per game, could be a big reason Waseca (12-1, 3-0) stretches its latest winning streak to four games.

New Ulm has an even longer streak, having won 10 consecutive games following a season-opening 62-50 loss against Mankato West. A big reason for the success of the Eagles (10-1, 3-0) has been the state's leading scorer, Joey Batt (30.5 ppg).

The senior has raised her scoring average each season, from 9 points per game as a freshman to 15.6 as a sophomore and 25.7 last season.
