St. Paul Central vs.

St. Paul Como Park

7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20

It’s not common to see the two top teams in a conference play against each other in the final game of the season for the title.

The winner of this year's St. Paul City Conference will be decided on Tuesday when St. Paul Central (13-11, 10-1) travels to St. Paul Como Park (16-8, 11-0) in a conference championship game, setting up our Top Game of the Week.

If the Cougars win, they will win the conference outright, their fourth-straight conference title.

If the Minutemen win, they will be co-champions with the Cougars, winning their first conference championship since a shared 2015 crown with the Cougars.

The Cougars are favored, after beating the Minutemen 91-73 earlier this season at Central. Makayla VanNett, who's averaging 21.5 points per game, led all scorers with 29 points in the win for Como Park, which is ranked No. 20 in Class 3A by Minnesota Basketball News.

VanNett has been a lethal scorer throughout her varsity career for the Cougars. She averaged 12.1 points per game in her freshman season, and that number has continued to grow. She averaged 18.9 her sophomore year and 21.6 in her junior year.

Aliza Karlen (22.6 ppg) scored 23 points for the Minutemen in the loss, and she’ll need a big performance if the Minutemen are going to pull off the upset Tuesday and share the conference title.
