Minneapolis South vs. Minneapolis North

7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8

Given the history between Minneapolis South and Minneapolis North, there’s a good chance this game will be close.

South defeated North 52-47 on Jan. 12 behind 17 points from star Morgan Hill. The Tigers beat the Polars in both meetings last season, too — by 10 at home and by one on the road.

All the close contests have resulted in narrow finishes in the Minneapolis City Conference standings. South won the league title last season, edging North by two games. Entering this week, the Tigers (17-2, 8-0) hold a one-and-a-half game lead over the Polars (11-7, 6-1).

To have a chance at the conference title, North needs Alani Pettis, who scored 16 against South in mid-January, to score, while senior Monique Wooten (18.2 ppg) and Tiffany McNeil (14 ppg) will also need big games.
