Sleepy Eye St. Mary's vs. Sleepy Eye

7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9

This game won’t require much travel for Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, which has a one-mile jaunt down Third Ave NW to play its crosstown public school.

These teams play twice a season, so winning this game won’t automatically earn bragging rights.

Sleepy Eye swept the series last season and did so by an average of 23 points. The victories were two of the Indians' 14 Tomahawk Conference wins, which was enough to secure the league title.

This season's results may be different. Sleepy Eye St. Mary's (8-3, 1-0) is improved and already has two more victories than they had last year. In a 74-37 victory over GHEC/T/ML on Jan. 5, the Knights had four players score in double figures, led by Sydney Windschitl's 18. Madison Mathiowetz chipped in 17 points while Mallory Helget and Cassie Heinrichs each added 12.

To maintain their dominance in the series, the Indians (10-2, 3-2) can turn to Madi Heiderscheidt, who surpassed 1,000 career points earlier this season. She had 21 points in a 78-46 loss at Maranatha Christian on Dec. 2.
