Minneapolis North vs. Minneapolis South

7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12

Both Minneapolis North and Minneapolis South finished as the top two teams in the Minneapolis City Conference standings last season, with South winning the title after going undefeated in league play.

It's no surprise that both are atop the conference standings again this year, even if it league play is just starting.

North is 2-0 against conference rivals, and they have done it easily — winning both games by an average of 27 points.

Before playing South on Friday, the Polars (7-4) will have to beat conference foe Minneapolis Washburn to remain perfect.

Balanced scoring has been the key to North's success. Four players are averaging 11.9 points or more, and Monique Wooten leads the team with 18.6 points per game.

South is 3-0 in conference play and is off until Friday’s rivalry game. The Tigers (10-1) opened the season with an 81-62 loss to No. 7-4A Cretin-Derham Hall but have won 10 straight since. They are led by Morgan Hill, who is fourth in the state in scoring with 27.4 points per game and has scored 24 or more points in 10 games this season.
