Sauk Centre vs. New London-Spicer
6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20

It seems the path to the Class 2A, Section 6 title used to go through either Sauk Centre or New London-Spicer, but since section realignment moved New London-Spicer into Section 3, these teams get to renew their rivalry in the regular season or at the state tournament.

The Mainstreeters fell to the Wildcats 49-46 in last year's Class 2A semifinals when Shea Oman was fouled on a layup and converted the free throw for a key three-point play.

New London-Spicer went on to take second while Sauk Centre capped its sixth consecutive trip to state with a fourth-place finish.

Maesyn Thiesen (22 ppg), Jill Klaphake (13 ppg) and Kelsey Peschel (11 ppg) lead No. 3-2A Sauk Centre (3-1) this season, and the trio could be key to turning around the Mainstreeters' fortunes against their former West Central Conference foe.

49-46 . After losing to Anoka on Dec. 3, the Mainstreeters rebounded with victories against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (71-34) on Dec. 6 and Minnewaska (67-53) on Dec. 9.

Oman hasn’t slowed down since the state tournament, leading the No. 6-2A Wildcats (5-0, 1-0) to an undefeated start. Oman had 18 points, eight assists and eight steals in a 67-29 win over Morris/Chokio-Alberta.
