Roseau junior Kiley Borowicz has seen it happen all year, and Wednesday was no different.

The Rams and Pequot Lakes were locked in a close game well into the second half. In the final four minutes, Roseau took total control, closing with an 11-2 run to secure a 78-65 victory in the Class 2A quarterfinals at Mariucci Arena.

“It happens all the time,” Borowicz said. “We are really close, then we just get a big stretch, and either it keeps going or they come back and we do it again.”

Borowicz led the typically high-scoring Rams with 33 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. In addition to her all-around effort, old-fashioned defense and rebounding helped Roseau (28-3)  pull away in the second half.

Haley Weiboldt led Pequot Lakes with 22 points and Olivia Lane had 17 rebounds for the Patriots (27-4), who were within four points of the lead late in the second half.

Roseau coach said she Kelsey Didrikson wasn’t too worried. Her team knows how to close.

“I feel really confident in our team when we have a lead,” Didrikson said. “Everyone knows we like to score in transition, we like to score a lot of points, but what we’re really good at is taking care of the ball late in games.”
