Thief River Falls at Grand Rapids
2:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 17

Thief River Falls has just two losses, but both were to quality Class 4A opponents in No. 4 St. Michael-Albertville and No. 7 Maple Grove.

The No. 7-3A Prowlers (10-2) are finishing with a flurry, scoring an impressive 300 combined points in the second half of games.

Senior center Madison Brekke and junior guard Meleah Biermaier have provided much of the offense for Thief River Falls. Brekke and Biermaier each have scored in double digits in at least six games. Brekke finished with 21 in a 66-57 win over Pequot Lakes on Dec. 5, while Biermaier had 23 in a 68-49 victory at Monticello on Dec. 6.

No. 8-3A Grand Rapids (11-3) is a team that starts strong, scoring 409 points in the first half of games.

Freshman guard Heaven Hamling, who has at least 10 games with double-digit points, and senior center Taylor Kane, who has at least nine games, carry the scoring load for Grand Rapids. Hamiling has finished with 24 points in a 70-54 loss at Princeton on Jan. 10; Kane scored 26 points in a 76-44 victory at Chisago Lakes on Jan. 3.

Grand Rapids hasn’t beaten Thief River Falls in four years, but the Thunderhawks seem to have the talent to break the streak this season.
