Mahtomedi at Hill-Murray
7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9

Mahtomedi could be primed to crack the top 10 in the Class 4A rankings with its 6-2 record, and a victory over Metro East Conference rival Hill-Murray might make the Zephyrs a lock.

Mahtomedi (1-0 in league play) began the season with five straight victories but went 1-2 at the Hill-Murray Holiday Tournament and finished in six place. The Zephyrs' lone win at the event was over Cretin-Derham Hall (57-51) on Dec. 29.

Senior forward Ali Greene (17.4 ppg) and sophomore guard Marisa Gustafson (12.5 ppg) lead the Mahtomedi offense. Greene scored a season-high 30 points in an 80-75 victory over River Falls (Wis.) on Dec. 4.

No. 5-3A Hill-Murray (7-2, 2-0) has four players who have scored 15 or more points in a game this season, including senior guards Lindsey Malecha (21.4 ppg) and Olivia Graskewicz (14.0 ppg).

The Pioneers’ two losses were by a combined seven points.

Hill-Murray swept the regular-season series with Mahtomedi last year.
