Player of the Week winner

Megan Walstad, Eastview: Walstad scored 15 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the Lightning's upset of Hopkins. It wasn't her only impressive performance at the St. Olaf Holiday Hoops Classic, as she had 18 points in a 60-52 victory over Northfield and added 17 points and 13 rebounds to help Eastview defeat Hastings 55-28.

Player of the Week candidates

Heaven Hamling, Grand Rapids: Hamling hit seven three-pointers and finished with 35 points in a 94-72 loss to Hopkins at the St. Olaf Holiday Hoops Classic on Dec. 28. A day later, Hamling scored 18 points in a 56-47 victory over Farmington at the tournament.

Paige Bueckers, Hopkins: In a showdown between No. 1-4A Hopkins and No. 2-4A Eastview at the St. Olaf Holiday Hoops Classic on Dec. 29, Bueckers went 11-for-18 from the field and knocked down three three-pointers to finish with 30 points in her team's 66-55 loss. She turned in a 23-point effort against Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, in a 74-71 victory the next day.

Mary Burke, Mountain Iron-Buhl: Burke had another big game in a 59-40 win over Bigfork on Dec. 28, scoring 29 points on 8-for-12 shooting to help the No. 3-1A Rangers (11-1) extend a winning streak to three games. 

Sara Scalia, Stillwater: The Ponies (5-6, 1-3) snapped a three-game losing streak thanks to Scalia, who finished with 35 points on 9 of 16 shooting -- including knocking down five three-pointers -- in an 88-60 win over Cambridge-Isanti on Dec. 27.

Makayla Van Nett, St. Paul Como Park: Van Nett scored a season-high 41 points in an 84-77 victory over St. Croix Lutheran on Dec. 27. She had 20 points in a 58-50 loss to No. 13-2A Annandale a day later.

Bailey Becker, Sauk Rapids-Rice: Becker led Sauk Rapids-Rice with 34 points in a 67-54 loss to Totino-Grace at the St. Cloud Tech Tournament on Dec. 28. 

Joey Batt, New Ulm: Batt made five three-pointers and finished with 27 points to power New Ulm past Belle Plaine 76-46. Batt made 10 of 18 shots from the field on the night.

McKenna Hofschild, Prior Lake: Hofschild scored 30 or more points for the third time this season, recording 32 in a 67-55 loss against Northfield on Dec. 30. She finished 11-for-26 from the field, including sinking three three-pointers, and made 5 of 7 free-throw attempts.

Emma Grothaus, Mahtomedi: Grothaus helped lead the No. 6-3A Zephyrs (9-1) to a pair of victories at the St. Cloud Tech Tournament. Grothaus had 21 points in a 47-25 win over Sartell-St. Stephen and scored 28 in a 69-28 victory over St. Cloud Tech.
