Player of the Week winner

Paige Bueckers, Hopkins. Bueckers started heating up last week after a 25-point game against St. Michael-Albertville and a 30-point game against Park Center. Hopkins defeated St. Michael-Albertville 79-64 and rolled to an 87-60 win over Park Center.

Player of the Week candidates

McKenna Hofschild, Prior Lake. Hofschild’s tremendous season continued last week behind a 39-point outburst against Farmington in a 76-72 loss. That set a mark for a new season high for Hofschild and she scored 28 in the next game in a 78-55 loss to Eden Prairie.

Alexis Pratt, Stillwater. Pratt emerged for the Ponies behind a 22-point game against Park of Cottage Grove in a 64-45 loss and then a 31-point game against Tartan in an 87-80 loss. Pratt is averaging 19.8 points per game and her 31-point game served as a season high.

Kacie Borowicz, Roseau. Borowicz and the Rams have started to rise after a three-game winning streak. Borowicz scored 35 points in a win over No. 3-1A Mountain Iron-Buhl and that came after a 27-point performance against Thief River Falls in a 66-43 win. Borowicz shot 11 of 21 from the field.

Madeline Loder, Orono. Loder dropped 26 points on Buffalo in a 54-48 loss after she got to the line 15 times. She knocked down 14 free throws and went 6-for-13 from the field in the loss.

Joey Batt, New Ulm. Batt scorched Martin County West for 29 points in a 58-55 win behind five three-pointers. Batt also knocked down eight free throws despite shooting just 3 of 11 on two-point shots.

Mary Burke, Mountain Iron-Buhl. Burke did what she could in a 35-point game against No. 15-2A Roseau but it wasn’t enough for the No. 3-1A Rangers in a 90-86 loss. Burke hit four three-pointers and went 6 of 13 from the field. She also went 11 of 12 from the line. Burke had 24 a game earlier in a 73-42 win over Esko where she shot 10 of 14 from the field.

Morgan Hill, Minneapolis South. Hill scored 30 or more points in two of her three games last week. She had a high of 32 points in a 64-27 win over Minneapolis Edison on 10 of 17 shooting, which included hitting six three-pointers. She scored 24 against Chanhassen in a 57-47 win and capped the week with 30 points against Minneapolis Roosevelt in a 95-18 victory.

Sam Haiby, Moorhead. Haiby scored a game-high 35 points in a matchup of two Class 4A, Section 8 title contenders when she and the Spuds faced St. Michael-Albertville. The Knights came away with a 64-61 victory but Haiby had her ability to score on display.

Monika Czinano, Watertown-Mayer. Czinano led the Royals to an upset victory of Norwood Young America, which came into the game ranked No. 4 in Class 2A. She had a team-high 19 points and held Bren Fox to 10 points for No. 6-2A Watertown-Mayer.
