Braham is used to getting up and down the court quickly. It’s just not accustomed to having somebody match them stride for stride.

The No.-1 ranked Bombers and No. 7 Pequot Lakes traded fast-break baskets, three-pointers and even bodies on the floor until Braham sophomore sensation Rebekah Dahlman decided to put it in another gear.

Dahlman scored 12 of the Bombers’ final 17 points as Braham pulled away from the exhausted Patriots for a highly entertaining 77-66 victory in the Class 2A quarterfinals on Wednesday night at Williams Arena.

“That was one of the funnest games I have ever played in,” Dahlman said. She finished with a game-high 34 points and 14 rebounds to go along with six steals and four assists. “Their crowd was into it, and our crowd was into it. The atmosphere was crazy.”

The Bombers (29-2) were clinging to a 60-56 lead when they closed the game by scoring on 10 of their final 11 possessions. Dahlman scored on eight of them.

“I wanted this game so bad,” Dahlman said. “We want to take this all the way.”

Braham passed its first test in what turned out to be survival of the fittest. The Patriots (28-2) came out flying, taking a 14-2 lead in the first five minutes.

“We didn’t get off to a very good start,” Dahlman said. “We had to calm down, and slow it up.”

Pequot Lakes took its final lead 52-50 on Mattie Lueck’s layup with 10:30 remaining. Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow’s three-pointer 13 seconds later gave the Bombers the lead for good.

Emily Lueck (23 points) and Kylie Beltz (21 points) combined for 44 points for the Patriots.

“Pequot Lakes is a really good team,” Braham coach Tim Malone said. “They gave us everything we wanted and then some.”
